PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE
Lube, Oil & Filter
Oil is vital to your engine’s life and performance. It makes parts run cooler, preventing energy loss and engine deterioration. It also combats rust and corrosion while acting as a seal space between the piston and cylinder. Oil additives also remove impurities and sludge, clean existing deposits and prevent damage.
Today’s engines, especially those with turbo compressors, are extremely complex and require lubricants of a particular viscosity that contain specific additives and detergents that break down over time. If not changed regularly, a gelatinous sludge can build up and wear your seals and engine.
An oil change includes a quality filter that can sustain kilometers without losing its capacity to filter dirt and particles, so the oil remains top shape. Plus, our technicians will inspect other vehicle components and provide a summary report.
NAPA AUTOPRO TIP: Generally, engine oil should be changed according to the manufacturer’s recommendations – we recommend at least every 3 months of 5,000 km’s (whichever comes first). Our technicians know which viscosity, API rating or specific certifications your engine requires.
Wheel Alignments
Hitting a pothole, curb or frequent speed bumps can knock your wheels out of alignment. That makes the steering wheel vibrate or the car pull to one side, forcing you to constantly correct your course to keep driving in a straight line.
Poor wheel alignment can cause your tires to wear unevenly and faster. Have your wheel alignment checked by our technicians who can correctly align your front and rear axles.
NAPA AUTOPRO TIP: If you can’t avoid hitting a pothole, brake to slow your vehicle and then release the brake just before you hit the hole. This will allow your vehicle to absorb the blow and minimize potential damage.
Timing Belt & Water Pump
The timing belt is an essential part that synchronizes the timing of your vehicle’s combustion process. First, the pistons travel up and down in the cylinder, then intake valves open at the right time to let in air fuel. After, they close at the right time to allow the fuel to burn, then the exhaust valve opens at the right time to let out the exhaust. And it all happens a thousand times a minute.
Timing belts wear out naturally over time and a worn or broken timing belt can cause very expensive engine damage. The timing belt should be replaced according to the manufacturer’s recommendations-usually every 100,000 km.
Replacing a timing belt is one of the most expensive routine maintenance items on your service schedule. That said, not replacing your timing belt can lead to some of the most expensive repairs you may ever have. Regular inspection is essential.
On some engines, the water pump is driven by the timing belt as opposed to the serpentine belt. In that case, it’s a good idea to replace the water pump at the same time as the timing belt and vice versa, since much of the same work has to be done for both these components. The same is true for the timing belt tensioner. It should be inspected and possibly replaced.
Our technicians can replace the timing belt according to the extremely specific parameters and repair any engine damage.

Fuel System Services/ Injection Cleaning
Your vehicle’s fuel system typically consists of a fuel pump, located in the gas tank, a fuel filter and injectors. Located between the gas tank and the engine, the fuel filter removes dirt and contaminants before any gas gets to the engine.
Signs of a Faulty Fuel System:
· Car won’t start or has difficulty starting
· Whining noise from the gas tank
· Car stalls during hot weather
· Loss of power
· Engine sputters and stalls
· Engine surges
· Poor gas mileage
Your vehicle’s central computer manages the fuel system and is generally maintenance-free. But if the system is not regularly maintained, gas consumption will increase, and the system could fail. If fuel pump filters get clogged, the pump may experience a pressure decrease and the injectors may need some cleaning to restore their full capacity.
Failure to maintain the fuel system according to the manufacturer’s recommendations could cause the check-engine light to come on and damage other parts controlled by the vehicle’s central computer.
During vehicle maintenance, our technicians can determine if the fuel filter needs to be replaced, if the fuel pressure is within specifications or if the injectors need cleaning based on the recommended maintenance schedule.
The technician will remove any deposits to restore the engine’s power and performance and improve your fuel economy.
Keep your fuel system clean by using only good quality gasoline and avoid running your car with your tank almost empty. As our technicians to add a fuel system cleaner to your tank in order to prolong the life of your fuel pump.
